In addition to a series of events putting the book and its stories in the spotlight, the coming weeks will be marked by the release of numerous Esch2022 publications. In the framework of the Bettembourg Literary Festival LiteraTour, for example, the anthology “Prix Laurence 2022” will soon be published, featuring all the texts of the finalists of this year’s competition for young authors. On the occasion of this 7th edition of the festival, 239 fantastic texts were submitted by a total of 168 young writers. This publication will give you the opportunity to discover the best works in Luxembourgish, German, French, English, Portuguese, Italien in Portuguese and Lithuanian or find out what the most promising authors of the coming years have to offer.

Within the framework of the same project, the municipality of Bettembourg is producing a comic book called De Ris geet op d’Rees about the sleeping giant, whom most people probably already know as the symbol of the Bettembourg Parc Merveilleux. Starting next year, a long-term, creative Giant-themed trail across the municipality of Bettembourg will also invite visitors to relive the adventures of this ever-popular figure.

A graphic novel “Schortgen” is being published by the municipality of Kayl as part of the Den neie Mineur project. This publication is aimed at a young audience and is dedicated to the political involvement of the first working-class man elected as a member of parliament, Jean Schortgen, during his term of office between 1914 and 1918. The grapich novel uses a “modern” written and graphic language to deal with the political and syndical engagement of the working-class man and the difficulties and opposition he faced at the time.

D’So vum Marxeweier, a renaturalisation project in the middle of the Schmëttsbësch, intends to revive the popular Schifflange legend of the same name and is publishing a book for children aged 10 to 12. The project itself is aimed at young and old and features a number of attractions around this ancient story, including a beautiful hiking trail and lots of instructive explanations about water. Author Betsy Dentzer and Pit Wagner’s colourful illustrations bring the story of the famous seven “Waasserjofferen” to life. So, go ahead and grab one of the first 1,000 copies of this book and let this legendary story enchant you.

In November, a richly illustrated book as part of the PAYSAGES DU FER project will be published, which is aimed at both a specialist audience and a amateur public, and even at foreign visitors who are interested in getting to know the Minett region. The authors Jean Goedert, architect, Antoinette Lorang, art historian, Jaques Maas, historian and research associate at the CDH of the University of Luxembourg aim on the one hand to document the development and transformation of the region and its landscapes due to the industrial activities between the 18th and the end of the 20th century and on the other hand to shed light on the redevelopment of the post-industrial landscapes through the conversion of industrial wastelands in the 21st century. It’s a glorious tribute to the essence of the South!

At the end of November, we will also be releasing a number of publications developed in the context of the exhibitions presented at the Möllerei. These include Hacking Identity – Dancing Diversity, Earthbound – In Dialogue with Nature and IN TRANSFER – A New Condition. The exhibition catalogue for the Pure Europe project will follow a little later.

Finally, The Guide Zoom Minett – An Excursion through the South of Luxembourg and Neighbouring France introduces you to a region characterised by change, creativity and inspiration. Discover around 60 exciting destinations in the 11 municipalities of the southern region and the 8 municipalities of the “Communauté de Communes Pays Haut Val d’Alzette” (CCPHVA) in neighbouring France: from classics like the Parc Merveilleux in Bettembourg, the fascinating remnants of the former steel industry or the exciting hiking trail Minett Trail to a bunch of secret insider tips.
