Description

Amsterdam Rainbow Dress

The Amsterdam Rainbow Dress has already been exhibited in the plenary hall of the European Parliament, in the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum, the Prado in Madrid, in the City Hall in San Francisco or at the World Pride in New York for the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. We are therefore very proud to be able to bring this project to Luxembourg for the European Capital of Culture programme in Esch. The dress consists of the national flags of all those countries where homosexuality is currently criminalised. Whenever a country changes its legislation for the better, the flag in question is replaced by a rainbow flag. Our hope is that this dress will be all rainbow as soon as possible. During Luxembourg Pride Week 2022, the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress will not only be on display as part of an international conference on LGBTIQ+ activism in Europe, the local queer musician Edsun will perform live in the dress during the memorial ceremony to the victims of queerphobic violence.

LGBTIQ History in Luxembourg

In the context of the project „Queert Archiv Lëtzebuerg“ by Rosa Lëtzebuerg asbl, which deals with the documentation and research of LGBTIQ+ history in Luxembourg, the idea arose to evaluate the collected archival documents and findings and to make them accessible to a larger public in the form of an exhibition. Among other things, the preparatory work within the scope of the Rosa Lëtzebuerg exhibition „25 Joer Homosexualitéit“ from 2006 will be used, as well as documents from the 25-year history of the Rosa Lëtzebuerg association and other realia made available by members of the local community. The exhibition „LGBTIQ+ History in Luxembourg“ will for the first time provide insights into the realities of life of people who have been ignored by historiography. This exhibition will be open to the public during the entire Luxembourg Pride Week from 1 to 10 July at the Pride Headquarters in Batiment IV.

Queer Arts Festival Luxembourg

As part of the European Capital of Culture programme, Luxembourg Pride Week 2022 will start with a premiere: after more than 10 years, there will be a queer arts festival in Luxembourg again. But in contrast to the former TransCulturel Festival, the Queer Arts Festival will offer a platform to the widest possible range of art forms. In and around our Pride Headquarters at Batiment IV, which will be open to everyone throughout Luxembourg Pride Week, the public will have the opportunity to discover the work of local queer artists at the Queer Arts Festival from 1 to 3 June.

Commemoration Ceremony

Traditionally, the Luxembourg Pride Week starts with the commemoration ceremony. In the presence of high-ranking representatives from politics and society as well as all other participants, we want to commemorate the victims of queerphobic violence. In 2022, the commemoration ceremony will be further extended: the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress will be publicly displayed for the first time in Luxembourg during this ceremony. The well-known queer artist Edsun will perform live in this dress and thus musically accompany the commemoration ceremony.

International Conference: LGBTIQ+ Activism in Europe

After a period in which one had a much more progressive attitude in the Central and Western European society, and in which, for example, marriage and adoption reforms for same-sex couples have taken place, tolerance and acceptance seem to be crumbling down in places. LGBTIQ-hostile tendencies pile up more and more, which equality translates into physical violence. For example, even in our neighboring countries France and Germany, there is a significant increase in violence on the street. In the east of the European Union, on the other hand, it looks much more dramatic. While in Poland the governing party has chosen the queer movement as the nation's newest enemy image, now it is also being followed by actions. The conference series "LGBTIQ+ Activism in Europe" takes place in cooperation with the Representation of the European Commission in Luxembourg.

Luxembourg Pride Street Fest

It is the highlight of the queer community in Luxembourg: after a whole week of events, the traditional Luxembourg Pride Street Fest will take place on 9 and 10 July 2022. Queer artists from Luxembourg and the Greater Region will perform on two stages over two days, sending a strong, loud and colourful message of tolerance and acceptance. But Pride is also the place to address the demands of the queer community to politicians. The Pride Street Fest is diversity in action and makes queer culture accessible to non-members of the LGBTIQ+ community. The Equality March will really kick off the celebration of diversity and acceptance on Saturday, 9 July. On two stages for the first time, you can expect a firework of music, dance and other shows, as well as political contributions. On Sunday, 10 July, we start with a big Rainbow Breakfast at the street festival. A wealth of concerts, drag shows and many other specials will make the cultural year 2022 an unforgettable experience from a queer perspective.
