Programme, Esch2022 - news
Welcome to the Skip !

We’re almost there! The Skip, a space dedicated to the visitors of the European Capital of Culture Esch2022, will open its doors in a few weeks. Are you ready to explore the digital world? The Skip will offer a wide range of activities for children, teenagers and adults interested in digital arts. To get off to a good start and mark the opening of the European Capital of Culture Esch2022, the Skip will organise several musical workshops for families. From 11 am on the weekend of 5 and 6 March, the artists of the Kogümi collective will welcome children (aged 7+) to the Mini-synth DIY workshops, where they will learn how to build their own synthesizer. In the afternoon, parents can participate alongside their children in the Retro scifi! workshops, where they will create sound effects for a science fiction film.
Throughout the month of March 2022, schoolchildren from Luxembourg and France can take part in music workshops during the 24H Electro for Kids Festival. The workshops (for kids from 4 years), led by DJ Brave, will be devoted to the exploration of amplified and electronic sounds. Participants will also discover the ‘MACHIN(E)S’, a brand-new interactive installation of five futuristic machines that look like spaceship cockpits, in which they will be able to experience different musical phenomena and create the music and sounds of the future.
As part of a series of weekend workshops with DJ Brave, also suited for people with disabilities, families will learn to control synthesizers, drum machines and vocoders in a playful environment based on experimentation, collective play, the exploration of electronic sounds and creating music. Concluding this eventful month of March, the concert !BOOM BOOM! will provide an opportunity for the little ones to experience electronic music for the first time in concert conditions. A trio of musicians will rock the room with their drum machines, synthesizers and video projections.
Keeping up the tempo, the Skip will welcome the French artists collective Freesson in April and May. They will conduct workshops for schools during the week, and activities for the general public on weekends. Among the many activities on offer (details to follow on our website) is an introduction to light painting by the artists Cleps and Etsi as part of the Night of Culture in Belval on 9 April 2022. Light painting is a photographic technique that uses long exposure times to visualise drawings in space made with lamps in the dark, resulting in colourful dynamic images.
In late April, during the ‘Voxel’ workshops, Jankenpopp (who took part in the Youth and Family Day in Esch/Alzette in 2021), will invite geeks to create works of ‘Voxel Art’ representing local monuments using three-dimensional pixels (cubes), similar to the worlds in the famous video game Minecraft. Also in the first half of the year, WIDE (Women in Digital Empowerment) will organise two workshops for adults who are simply curious or who wish to broaden their skills. The first is devoted to coding, where participants will be introduced to basic programming languages, both theoretically and practically (HTML, CSS, etc.). The second revolves around WordPress and will provide a thorough introduction to this CMS tool.
Finally, don’t forget that throughout the year and during the exhibitions, our public outreach team will offer different types of guided tours. You can book private tours for adults or young audiences, or take part in free tours on weekends, the Générations BD tours, in storytelling walks for children, or Konscht ouni Alter tours for seniors. All our tours are devised to offer a unique experience of the exhibitions.
