‘Space is a magical place’

HRH the Grand Duchess of Luxemburg at the Maison du Savoir in Belval

On Monday 29 November, 350 children aged 6 to 12 from various schools in the Esch2022 region experienced an unforgettable moment when attending the award ceremony for the big ‘Molconcours’ drawing competition organised by Esch2022 at the Maison du savoir in Belval, in the presence of HRH the Grand Duchess of Luxemburg and Minister Franz Fayot.

As Joseph Rodesch (Mister Science) announced at the outset of the ceremony: ‘Today we’ll take off into space.’ Claudie Haigneré, the first French female astronaut to go to space, and the German astronaut Reinhold Ewald shared their incredible experiences: ‘Space is a magical place. It’s even more beautiful than I could have imagined. And the Earth is tiny, fragile, lost in the cosmos’ (Claudie Haigneré).

The lucky winners of the competition will be invited to complete a one-day course with their class at the Euro Space Center in Transinne (1st prize), visit the Luxembourg Science Center, where they will receive a meteorite fragment (2nd prize) and discover the new planetarium at the Luxembourg Science Center (3rd prize). The ceremony ended in the style of a rocket launch, with Nancy Braun, General Director of Esch2022, leading the countdown: ‘3… 2… 1… GO !!!!!’ – a foretaste of the REMIX Opening, the official opening ceremony of Esch2022, which will take place on 26 February 2022.
