Description
In 2022, at the invitation of Esch2022: European Capital of Culture, the Kaunas Photography Gallery and the Centre national de l’audiovisuel (CNA) propose to collaborate on a joint venture. The idea is to review and combine the experiences of two existing projects of the two institutions in order to create a new collaborative format. The 'Portfolio Days‘, hosted every three years by the CNA, and the Magazine from Kaunas ‘Į’, published every year by the Kaunas Gallery, seem to be the perfect combination for this initiative since they share a common aim: to bring together creatives from the world of photography and to promote exchange as the basis for new creations.
The collaboration of these two projects in 2022 will involve the establishment of a creative platform in the shape of two residencies – one in Luxembourg, one in Lithuania –, which will allow for experimentation and the development of a project on the basis of a photographic commission dealing with a designated topic. Four to five Luxembourg photographers along with four to five Lithuanian photographers, mentored by several experts from the field of photography, as well as graphic designers and writers from both countries will collaborate to bring this project to life.
The whole work will culminate in the production of a magazine and a presentation of the resulting work in both countries.
The context of the two European Capitals of Culture, Esch and Kaunas 2022, represents the perfect occasion for this collaboration, connecting two photographic initiatives and scenes in a dynamic collaboration.

About
A platform open to the general public and a professional institution at the same time, the CNA was created in 1989 and placed under the authority of the Ministry of Culture. The institute's mission is to preserve and promote Luxembourg's audiovisual heritage and to make sound and image culture accessible to all through exhibitions, publications, screenings, conferences and other events aimed at a wide audience.
Production, distribution, conservation, restoration, support for creation or education, the CNA's tasks are many and varied and call for the participation of many national and international specialists. The CNA supports young talent as well as established artists, photographers, filmmakers, producers and musicians by engaging in film, audiovisual and music (co)production.
Training and cinematic education also play an important role at the CNA. Numerous educational activities are organised for children, teenagers, adults and professionals, often in collaboration with international experts.
The CNA is also a museum, with Edward Steichen's 'The Family of Man' collection on permanent display at the Château de Clervaux and temporary exhibitions in our galleries at the CNA. These exhibitions are complemented by a programme in our two cinemas (CinéStarlight) and a media library.
