Théâtre National de StrasbourgDescription
Esch 2022 | un territoire de théâtre pour demain | is a project designed by the Théâtre National de Strasbourg for Esch2022, European Capital of Culture. The project is cross-border and has two components dedicated to young people: Mix Up and the Troupe Avenir Transfrontalière. Rolled out on the French and Luxembourg territories in close collaboration with numerous partners, these projects involve around one hundred young people in an exceptional shared artistic adventure.
Mix Up puts theatre and contemporary writing at the heart of an exchange process between 120 students from secondary schools on both sides of the border. Together, they will collaborate through a theatrical journey alternating practice and discovery of shows (small theatrical forms presented in the schools, artists in residence, practical courses). Gathered within the same project, the pupils will experience together a unique theatrical and European experience.
The Troupe Avenir Transfrontalière offers a powerful experience to 20 young French and Luxembourgish people, aged 16 to 25, who have no previous theatre experience. Together, through a collective adventure, they will discover the process of theatrical creation by taking part in a spectacular form presented in a professional theatre and on tour in front of an audience. The Troupe Avenir Transfrontalière promotes collaboration and social diversity within a shared project.

About
Théâtre National de Strasbourg
The Théâtre National de Strasbourg is one of the five French national theatres and the only one outside Paris.
The TNS houses a School of Dramatic Art, performance halls and workshops for the construction of sets and costumes. Stanislas Nordey, director since September 2014, places a demanding and popular art theatre at the heart of the project and leads artistic excellence, the expansion of audiences and support for authors. The TNS places contemporary writing in multiple places: as a line of fire in the programme, as a foundation for cultural democratisation projects, and at the heart of writing commissions.
'The TNS is committed on a daily basis, in its practices, to crucial issues: sustainable development, diversity on stage and in theatres, equality and accessibility. To make theatre, to be theatre, is not to cut oneself off from reality and to be able to plunge unreservedly into the imaginary' Stanislas Nordey
The TNS presents about fifteen shows per season, including several creations and co-productions. During the summer season, the TNS offers La traversée de l'été, a free, travelling theatre programme for the general public: the TNS nomad goes out to meet new audiences throughout the country, from hostels and local missions to cultural centres, parks and squares. To carry out its missions, the TNS relies on a permanent staff of around one hundred employees.
