Pétange, situated at the intersection of France and Belgium, underwent a profound metamorphosis with the arrival of the train and the iron metallurgy, reinforced by an important and multicultural migration which led to a change of mentality: wearing a uniform, changing face, identity, character, forgetting everyday life and plunging into an artificial world or simply changing into another outfit and being reborn. This mentality led to the creation of popular events such as the carnival traditions (the Cavalcade or the congress of the European Federation of Carnival Cities).

The Carnival Parade
The town of Pétange is well-known, among other things, for her extraordinary Carnival Parade that's taken place ever since 1955 on mid-lent Sunday as well as for the many other parties taking up the Carnival theme.
27 March 2022 the town of Pétange will be hosting a big European Carnival Parade covering a distance of 6 km. This important project is signed KaGePe (the abbreviation of “Karneval Gemeng Péiteng“ or the Carnival Association of the municipality of Pétange), a non-profit association whose members have organized the renowned parade since 2008 and were entrusted by the municipality of Pétange and Esch2022 with the preparation and execution of the programme.
FECC
On the occasion of a meeting in Patras, Greece, in 1980, the decision to establish an international organization under the name of Foundation of European Carnival Cities (FECC) was made.
Over the years, countries, towns, associations and private people chose to join the FECC. Generally, the members meet twice a year, each time at a different location in Europe. On April 19, 1989, Luxembourg founded her own FECC division.
At this time, Luxembourg has 21 members as well as the KaGePe (member of the "Organization") and the municipal administration of Pétange as a member of the town.
The Luxembourg division is looking forward to hosting a congress within the scope of Esch2022 and under the auspices of the municipality of Pétange. A congress due to take place from May 22nd to May 29th, 2022. This will be a great opportunity and a pleasure to introduce our Luxembourg region to the FECC members from the different European countries.
