‘Let us all reach for the stars’
If we are lucky and the weather conditions are good, we can look up and watch the stars fall from the sky – the phenomenon more commonly known as shooting stars or meteorite showers – and wish for something.
The desire to dive into and explore the boundless universe has always been a human dream. The new constellation pieces by the artist Sali Muller transform the space into a magically sensuous projection landscape. The work contemplates the perception of reality and tries to illustrate the invisible through seeing and thinking.
With the observers changing perspectives, the array of colours and stars evolve, and the spatial perception of the room alters. Traditional viewing habits are abandoned, and the focus is directed behind the light-reflecting surfaces and motifs. At the same time, the floor seems to open up, connecting to an ideal space beyond; the viewers are drawn into Sali Muller’s star Galaxy. The perceived meanings of the now, the later and the (in)-finite shift and intensify.
As an installation artist and sculptor, Sali Muller uses reflective surfaces in her work to address universal feelings such as self-doubt, introspection, and self-revelation. Furthermore, she analyses and questions the concepts of selfishness, vanity and ultimately the culmination of our visual culture. Through the use of reflective surfaces as well as video, light and sound installations, the artist explores the role of the individual in relation to themselves and their surroundings. The narcissistic need for soul-searching and the way in which man is alienated from nature lead to the questioning of one’s own self-awareness.
Sali Muller (b. 1981) lives and works in Luxembourg.
Sali Muller studied at the UMB, University of Marc Bloch in Strasbourg (F) and obtained her master’s degree in fine arts. She was invited to participate in group exhibitions such as the Regionale at the Kunsthaus Baselland in Basel (CH), the Ostrale-Biennale (D), as well as the Luis Adelantado Gallery in Valencia (E) and Galerie Zidoun-Bossuyt and Galerie Nosbaum Reding in Luxembourg City. Her first museum exhibition was at the IKOB Museum of Contemporary Art (B), followed by the Kallmann Museum in Munich (D), the MAC Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Lissone (I), and the Kunstmuseum Gelsenkirchen (D). Sali’s work is displayed in galleries in Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy. Consequently, her works were presented to a broader audience at established art fairs such as Volta Basel, Estampa and Art Rotterdam. She is currently working on several projects, including a solo exhibition at the Kogan Amaro Gallery in Sao Paulo and MAMA Museum of Modern Art in Algiers.
