Giele Botter | Differdange
Where once there was a flourishing iron ore mining industry, today beautiful and, importantly, protected lush green natural landscapes are thriving. Nature has reclaimed what used to be ‘red earth’ here and the area has been part of the Prënzebierg nature reserve since 1991. It is a wonderful surprise to find that 19 species of orchid grow here and 15 different kinds of fern. The Giele Botter is also home to hundreds of butterfly and bird species. Footpaths lead through the woodland or along the edge of it, for example to Fond-de-Gras, with panels along the way providing interesting information about nature and geology. An oasis of peace where you’re guaranteed to switch off and relax!
