A sustainability strategy that starts ‘now’

As part of Esch2022, the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development supports the implementation of an ambitious sustainability strategy. This partnership materialises as a project that originated as part of the European Capital of Culture and is set to extend well beyond 2022. ELO means ‘now’ in Luxembourgish.
ELO is a grouping of organisations and institutions committed to making cultural events and projects greener, more socially responsible and more economically sustainable. ELO brings together a network of actors who are keen to exchange and share good practices, ideas and methods in order to support future organisers in their undertakings.
In concrete terms, ELO aims to:
- develop guidelines and good practices in the realm of sustainability, informed by the experiences, solutions and proposals of the various parties
- organise work groups and think tanks on specific themes and with clear objectives
- provide specific communication tools developed within the framework of ELO.
It will work along 6 major lines of action: tourism, mobility and accessibility, food, waste management, communication and the local economy.
The artist Irina Moons, co-founder of the co-working space Am Gronn, was tasked with developing a graphic identity that encapsulates the importance of human input in sustainable action. This approach is based on the idea that solutions exist and that it is up to each and everyone of us to implement them. ELO will therefore highlight these solutions and encourage all those who act sustainably on a daily basis.
Regarding the communication strategy, the agencies Am Gronn and Fame Studio worked together to develop modular, sustainable and attractive tools aimed at providing answers to a simple problem: how to communicate effectively and clearly on the sustainable actions of a project that involves more than 130 different parties and will take place across more than 2,000 events? These tools will be presented in more detail in an upcoming feature.
