On June 14th, Esch and the Southern region presented their candidacy to become European Capital of Culture in 2022 to a European jury. Esch2022 was represented by Vera Spautz, Mayor of Esch-sur-Alzette, Daniel Biancalana, Mayor of Dudelange, Jean Tonnar, Alderman in charge of Culture at the Municipality of Esch, Ralph Waltmans, Andreja Wirtz and Daisy Wagner from the Municipality of Esch, Ingra Soerd of the association Ecoute le paysage!, Céline Suel, member of the Esch2022 communication team, René Penning of the Kulturfabrik, and Olivier Zéphir from the Technoport business incubator.


What’s next?

Esch and the Southern region have been preselected to become European Capital of Culture. A second round will be dedicated to further developing the concept and the artistic programme on the basis of the jury’s recommendations. The next meeting between the Esch2022 team and the European experts will take place in September 2017 when the final decision on the awarding of the label will be made.
